The football jersey boom

The football jersey boom

Long reserved for the stands and playing fields, the football jersey has gradually become part of the daily lives of the French. According to the IFOP study carried out for eBay with more than 3,000 people, 24% of French people now own at least one football jersey. A proportion which testifies to the growing place taken by this article in consumption habits, but also in clothing practices.

The phenomenon is particularly marked among 18-24 year olds. More than one in two young people (53%) own at least one jersey and 27% even say they wear it as part of their studies or at work. Sports clothing is thus gradually freeing itself from its primary function to become a generational marker, a sign of belonging and sometimes a simple aesthetic choice. However, the differences remain significant between men and women: 30% of men own a swimsuit compared to 18% of women.

This trivialization of the swimsuit in daily life is found in the declared uses. If 47% of owners wear it to practice a sporting activity and 43% during their favorite team’s matches, 42% simply put it on at home. Even more surprising, 18% wear it when shopping and 13% in a professional or school setting. As a further symbol of this cultural evolution, 10% of jersey owners say they are not interested in football.

The development of collaborations between clubs, equipment manufacturers and the world of fashion has largely contributed to this transformation. Jerseys are no longer just designed for sports performance. They are now part of logics of style, collection and expression of identity which go far beyond the traditional circle of supporters.

A rapidly accelerating collectible market

Beyond its clothing use, the jersey has become a sought-after collector’s item. Among French people who own them, 19% have collected these pieces for more than ten years and 17% say they have more than ten copies. This practice is based on an increasingly structured market where general platforms and second-hand sites play a central role in the circulation of products.

The value given to certain models illustrates this move upmarket. The French say they are ready to invest on average up to 128 euros to acquire a jersey. Among 25-34 year olds, this amount even reaches 233 euros. Nearly a third of respondents said they were willing to exceed the threshold of 100 euros to obtain the part they were looking for.

Major international events continue to fuel this dynamic. Historical data from eBay shows that at the time of the French team’s world title in 2018, searches related to Les Bleus jerseys had jumped 465% between the start of the competition and the final. The “France 98” jersey also benefited from a spectacular renewed interest with an increase of 369% over the same period. These figures illustrate the capacity of football to create objects of memory whose value far exceeds their original price.

The trend shows no signs of slowing down. Among the collectors surveyed, 68% plan to buy a new jersey during the next major competitions. A majority aims for the new tunics from the national selections while one in two collectors wishes to enrich their collection with rare or historical models.

Global data observed by eBay confirms this acceleration. In April 2026, football jerseys received more than 1,400 searches per hour on the platform. Searches linked to vintage models increased by more than 20% between February and March 2026 while those associated with major international competitions increased by more than 70%.

The impact of sports news remains particularly powerful. Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Champions League thus caused a 1,247% increase in searches linked to the club’s jersey the day after the final compared to the daily average observed since the start of the year. At the same time, the valuation of the rarest pieces continues to increase. In March 2026, the average price of match-worn jerseys sold on eBay jumped more than 220% in one month.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
